In the 20th century, writing mentors--including office supervisors--stressed that it was ineffective--a sin, even--to use the passive voice.
That always perplexed me. Was it their superstitious belief that the active voice was the hero's voice, the voice of action, the voice of advancement?
So how many heroes are there now, and how much action has been taken, and how much in advance have we all gone?
I love the passive voice. I use it for variety. It is the yin to the active voice's yang.
Whoever tells me not to use it now, I consider a pretentious fool.
