Watched the finals of Masterchef Australia 2018 on Lifestyle.
Have been pronouncing words their way: "fillet" (FILL-ett instead of Fee-LAY) and "gourmet" (GOUR-mett instead of Gour-MAY) and "latte" (LATT instead of LAH-teh).
The supervisor at the meat section of Shopwise kept correcting my pronunciation and I thought she was hopelessly behind the times. Australia, after all, is closer to the Philippines than France and Italy are.
Come to think of it, pretentious "Frenchification" and "Italianization" exist also in Philippine art and fashion.
