Our tour ends with The Ten Courts of Hell. Some of the statues, to me, are quite erotic. We meet up with two reps of the villa. They show us the function room where we are holding the first workshop tomorrow.
An evening of loud sounds. Terrifying, sonic booms rip through the air above, and some tourists seem alarmed. Much later Ezzat will explain to me that military planes are rehearsing for National Day. On my way to Yong Bak Kut Teh, a favorite watering hole, truckloads of drummers and dragon dancers are creating loud, ritual percussion sounds in front of and on the compound of Hong San See Temple. I ask one of the palanquin bearers what is going on. Apparently a new god is being enshrined in the temple. I look at his statue from a respectful distance. I am told his name, but I can neither spell nor pronounce it. The statue, to me, looks like Sin Hong Kung, but when I mention that name everyone shakes their heads. This ritual will go on for another day and another night.
